AB 1925 (Conway)

I would like to start out by apologizing for not keeping this blog as current as it could be. I have had a some health problems in the past couple of months that required me to slow down a bit and that is why I have not been up to par on this blog.

The State of California Legislature has passed Assembly Bill 1025 which requires Walk-on coaches, volunteers and other supervisors of student activities to obtain special certification from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. This bill will take effect on July 1, 2010 and will require the aforementioned coaches, supervisors, etc to obtain an Activity Supervisor Clearance Credential. This is a NEWLY created certification which is going to cost additional money above the standard $55 that we already pay for fingerprinting and background that is done now. Also, this will require more work to the mountain of work our district personnel already have.

Interestingly enough , this new law excludes volunteer supervisors for breakfast, lunch, or other nutritional periods as well as non-teaching volunteer aides. HUH

I am trying to make sense of this new law and I am having a difficult time. On one hand , I think the State is looking for a new revenue stream and on the other trying to discourage walk on help. I will leave my commentary there on this issue as I am still searching for my own understanding.

AB 1025 will be one of the topics covered at the 7 AM Wednesday morning breakfast club meeting at the Barnwood Restuarant this week.

As always, any feedback is always good.
